Military Press vs Shoulder Press

Does it defeat the purpose if a Smith Machine is used for Military Press??

Umm, as far as what i've always called them, they're the same.

I think smith machine presses suck.

i thought they were the same thing too personally i dont like the smith machine, i like my shoulder presses standing up with barbells. thats just me

my understanding, military press is with barbell and shoulder press is dumbell.

but then there is barbell press.
