    True a spotter is needed when going heavy. But let's put this one in perspective. This guy is not a wimp and probably weighs 275+lbs and 250lb bench is light for him who has much experience. In this case, it was not having a spotter that caused his death but a heart condition, abnormal heart beat which led to difficulty breathing, heart failure. Consequentially loosing strength and the bar choking him . He would of died probably with 200lbs. Either way its sad.

    you dont even need a spotter, just dont train without a powercage in a room with no other people in.

    Or maybe not using clamps would've helped. At least you could push half the weight up enough to let the 'bells fall off.

    thats sad, even though 250 was probably light for him he still should have a spot.
