Both, and more
Straight bar, ez curl, DB, and cable curls. Switch it up, use reverse curls as well. Switching up your exercises, techniques, and routines will net you the best, most balanced gains.
Exactly what I was going to say..Originally Posted by birsling
straight, it puts a greater stress on the biceps.
here's what i think, the harder the exercise(usually), the more effective it is. eg. squats vs. leg press...
it's called ez curl bar for a reason![]()
might take some time to get used to the exercise but it has worked great for me.
both can be the backbone of a good biceps workout. just use what works best for the time being, then switch it up when you get accustomed to it. used ez curl for quite a while but been getting good results from straight bar lately.

i use straight bar when im aiming overall power and mass gains
but when im focusing at a muscle i will use ez
where i put my hands close together or hold them further out
Straight bar all the way down w/strict form, no cheating, no swinging, check the ego at the door.
That is what builds big/full/long biceps.

AGREE , straight bar Bis (curl) and tris (skull crush)
striaght bar for sure
straight bar... strict form...
straight bar for sure but if ya got bad wrists like me gotta go with e-z bar.
When those who use a straight bar complain of wrist pain, usually it's because they are trying to curl too much, and their biceps are not strong enough to carry the load by themselves, thus putting a lot of force on the wrist area. In addition, you should experiment with grip spacing to find a comfortable range, as many times that is also a cause of wrist pain. Usually it's a combination of the two reasons listed.

SC is right
i use the straight bar, every now and then through in some ez bar for preachers. i stay strict with my form 99% of the time, but i aint gonna lie ill loosen up the form for a couple heavy reps. makes me feel like my bis are going to explode
i have to say i cheat some also when going heavy using a bar, but use strict form on every other bicep move. i know that arnold used cheat curls alot and that guy built the best arms on planet earth.
your 100% right an it took me until last week to realize that grip spacing is my problem even though i was still able to curl the weight i wanted to.. I widened my grip a bit which is common sense and i should have known that. I dont have a big peak on my bis and not sure i will btu they are long and full from straight bar curls all the way down..Originally Posted by SwoleCat
