OUCH! My BACK!! My neck and my BACK!!

Ok not me neck, but i think i messed up my lower back doing stiff legged deadlifts. I did them on monday, its now friday and it still hurts to bend down and get up from sitting. I dont thnk its muscle soreness any more.
Anyways im suppose to do regular deads today but i think im going to skip it. Anybody have any tips or ideas to subside the pain. Thanx.

You are more than wise to not do deads today. You have probably just stretched all the interconnective tissues that hold the lumbar spine and pelvis together. Just give it rest, maybe some light stretches once the pain subsides a bit. If it doesn't get better visit the doctor. Also stiff-leg deadlifts are potentially more likely to cause injury because your back is bending more than usual deadlifts.

It's been there for a week, so I'd put some heat on the low back. Get some blood flowing in there. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.

do you feel like the muscles that run along your spine are realy tight? or is it more the muscles above your pelvic bone a bit lateral from your spine? I cant say for sure since i havent done an exam on you; but from what you've said, it could be that you have a simple muscle strain that's causing more spasms that anything else. First, find someone who can give you a good back massage. If you can stand it, have them use ice in the first part of the massage....it numbs the area to make it more bearable and can decrease the inflammation. Also, start using either ibuprofen or aleve on a scheduled basis....that's what I recommend for my patients with acute or subacute muscle strains. Also, when you lay down, make sure it's on a flat surface...couches and beds will allow curvature which doesnt help. If you can take laying flat on the floor, it will help as well. Stretching is ok, but keep away from the lifting till the pain has subsided. When you get someone to do a massage, it takes awhile for the muscles to relax out to do anygood....give it some time and it'll work. Good luck!

Do you have one of those electical muscle shockers? My back was killing me for a couple of weeks, a friend of mine had one of those, put it on there, a week later the pain was gone.
Just like keyser said, it helps bring blood to that area and therefore helps heal you up quicker.

Thanx for the info.. Whats funny is that all week long it never crossed my mind to have my girl massage my back for me. 3 things in life i dont like are massages, sushi, and wine. But i guess a massage would be beneficial at this point in time. Once again thanx.

Even though you and I are apparently from different planets (my three great loves in life are massages, sushi and wine), I would suggest a good massage therapist. They work wonders for me. I have recurring pain in my traps when I hit them hard, and deep tissue massage has consistantly alleviated the problem.

Also, even though I'm pretty much a hard science devotee, acupuncture has done more good for me than I ever thought it would. Face it, it's better than living in pain.

In the end, though, rest is always the best medicine (though I have found that sex tends to help the lower back).
