I am not asking all these questions specifically for myself

most of the answers I already know, I am curious on other people's answers

I am a personal trainer at a local gym, just doing my research
that's why I am keeping the questions general

No surprise here- but I'm looking to get freaking huge. So I go heavy weight- low reps.

For most excercises I go 5-7 reps. If I can 8 or more reps, then it's time to increse the weight.

For big muscles I do 8-12 sets. For litlle muscles (biceps and calves are pretty much it...) i do 4-6 sets.
It doesn't sound like much- but 4 heavy sets (to failure) of biceps will do it for me.

That's my story- and so far it seems to be working well.

Although the copious amounts of juice flowing in my veins may be helping....

No I don't think 8-12 sets for a large muscle group is too much. Lets take back for example. I do 4 sets of Hammer pull downs, 3 sets of low rows, 3 sets of lat pull downs and 3 sets of one arm dumbell rows...13 sets.

As a personal trainer you will already know that low reps are used to promote muscle growth and strength and higher reps are for toning and shaping.Sets depend on your goals and the excecises you perform
