stretching really doesn't prevent injury...
and it isn't always a good idea to strech a muscle if its cold unless you do some activity to warm it up as well...

I have read a few studies that show stretching might decrease the amount of work your muscles can expend if doing before. I personally don't stretch just get nice and warmed up with the ol airdyne bike and warmup sets. Stretching after seems to be working for me b/c the muscles are nice and tender so you can have a full ROM which can help with flexability in the future.

Natty99, if you have access to a sauna room, it is perfect to warm up in and do some light stretching before you workout. Stretching should unquestionably be done after your workout and the more stretching you do, the better it is for your body.

Thanks Guys. I'll definately continue to stretch after my workouts. I may add in a little streching pre workout (after my warmup), as Nova has said.

is it proven that stretching before working out is more detrimental rather than positive for your body?

I would only stretch when your muscles are warm. Stretching cold can have detrimental effects on training
