    No biceps? :-(

    Hello,

Im new to training, been working out for about 10 months. Most if not all body parts are doing O.K however my biceps suck! I have hardly any peak in fact I have hardly any biceps??? my triceps on the other hand are my best body part.I read somewhere that tall lifters suffer from this problem due to the length of their arms? My question is given time and proper training is it possible to achieve a half decent bicep? or is it a genetic falling that i'll probs never be able to bring up to par?

    Thank's for any help :-)

Its way to early to say you are genetically screwed. Keep on pounding away with heavy barbell curls and free weights and work progressively... and they will grow...

i agree with warrior too early to write off your arms,my triceps are much more developed naturally than my bis, keep workin on em and theyll grow.
dont be tempted to over do it just because they are lagging.

Yeah, some just don't have peaks and that's genetic limitation.

Well, my biceps are pretty good size, but I just recently found that 21's and incline DB curls rreally hit it for me.

Keep at it big man... they'll come along. You may not be standing on an Olympia stage in your future (or you could) but you still have lots of room for growth.

Sometimes I wish I could go back to the days when I was just starting out and wasting energy on working one muscle group a day and prioritizing things like neck and forearms... don't get caught up in the B/S at this stage.

Get a good training journal and pencil in a good free weight regime with lots of Barbells and Dumbells... Squats, Deadlifts and Bench Presses should be your big 3... work them progressively building the load up over each workout. Every once in awhile strip a few pounds off to take one step back - for three steps forward. When you workout, focus on yourself and not what others are doing - kill them weights... then eat and get plenty of rest. You are actually quite lucky - this could be your best year for gains! Good luck...

Thanks Warrior! im doing the big three with only a little isolation work for biceps mainly curls, hammer curls and or pull ups or lat pulldowns via total body style 3x a week. The thing Is when I work biceps I never seem to feel like they are actually being worked!? I never feel the muscle being isolated so to speak.Rather my forearms seem to take the pain? again I think or read somewhere that this is a problem that long limbed lifters sometimes have.

BTW. Does anyone know if anyone could/did turn pro with less than great biceps? I know Dorians werent excatly as full and as peaked as Arnolds.Mind you who gave a shit about BI's when you saw the rest of Dorian!!

Not really... try putting a couple 5 pound plates between your elbows and your torso next time you curl... it will keep your elbows from moving - or at least condition you to keep them anchored by bruising your toes if you do move them...

Also - the biggest mistake I see in the gym is how people do their bicep curls... make sure you get a full stretch - don't turn it into a lower back curl. You could do them against a wall to help condition good form as well. Your arm should be nearly fully extended before the next contraction... this gives them a full stretch and lets you focus on the biceps performing the work.

I'd say keep it up....bis are def my weakest as well. My advice also is to keep trying new techniques and varations. Even try slightly different grips (ie curls usually EZ curl...inner, normal and then wide grip...etc) and reverse curls etc bc each targets a slightly different spot. Good luck! Dnt give up.

This is very important. Nothing happens over night. There are no magic pills for instant gratification... well... other than a progressive training program with consistency and lots of motivation.

Make it a life time commitment to being in shape - and you'll learn many valuable traits along the way... make fitness no different than basic hygiene - aside from how extreme you want to take it...
