    Soreness...Good or Bad Sign?

I was talking to a firend of mine and told me that if your body is not sore the day following the workout then you will not be building muscle.

At the moment i only get sore in my Chest, tric's, back and legs. I never feel sore when i train shoulders and biceps..just get that bump and thats it.

Does this mean that i'm not training good enough? I always train to complete failure...

    any help appreciated

What kind of soreness do u get in your shoulders?! I dont do much just arnold presses 1w/u 3heavy, dd presses 1w/u 3heavy, Side Laterals 3 sets and finish off with Barbell Shrugs 3heavy.

I feel the burn and my shoulders are pumped but i dont feel the sorness the next day unlike the chest.

I am not sure that sore is the right word, wasted would be more like it, tired, that kind of thing. I get sore after some workouts but not all and I dont belive its lack of intensity , it could be due to a number of reasons

Soreness has little to do with muscle growth. Don't worry about it. Just make sure, that when you leave the gym, the muscles you worked are fry'd. I haven't felt soreness in some time. lol

Cheers Kyle..what i mean by sore is like the day after u feel like the body part u have trained is torn apart. When u stretch d muscle u feel that sharp pain. i cant really explain it...but if u say that soreness has little to do with muscle growth than i'll take your world.

complete failure can be used effectively for strength gains/adaptations
but is unecessary for muscle hypertrophy/growth,it can cause overtraining issues and can lead to injury in some individuals, the central nervous system is slower to recover than muscles and takes a beating when going to complete failure, that said i would only go to failure occasionally.

I usually only get sore if I switch to a completely new movement. Other than initially, never get sore at all.

    Muscles fried? Yes

    Sore? no.

agree 100%. when i overtrain, i always overtrain by overloading my cns cause i push to failure on almost every set. though my muscles can handle more, my cns can't, and that's my limiting factor. since i've started pushing less sets to failure and found other ways to keep the workouts intense, my cns is much happier and my gains are the same.

as far as the soreness question, i think occasional soreness is good to show you you're pushing yourself. if i work out my chest and the next day i'll go to squeeze my chest muscles or if i push on them at all, then yes, they feel sore. however, most the time, it's not a soreness that's killing me the next day. though i do like to shock the muscles occasionally with workouts that do that, it's not something you can handle every workout.

one muscle though that never gets sore on me is my shoulders. no matter how hard i blast them, they just never get sore. one of these days, i'm planning on pounding the sh*t out of them though until i can't raise my arms. nice to do in moderation but again, you shouldn't be sore from every workout.

this is something that people really need to understand, the old school thought of no pain no gain(okay some) and hammering the muscle into non existance is bs.

I wouldn't say that it's BS. Provided your food intake is high enough, and you allow enough time to rest, completely destroying a muscle group is a great way to break a plateau. It's not something that needs/should be done often, but I think it definately has it's place in contnueing progress.

I always thought a lot of being sore is latic acid buildup. Do a lot of cadio after a wordout and you shouldn't be to sore. I am always sore a little after every workout.

in my experiences, soreness if felt when lifting has been not performed in a while, meaning time off of more than a week, OR when new exercises are worked into the routine, because new exercises mean new parts of the muscle that havent been worked in a while, or you are hitting the muscle from a different angle...Either way, I don't get sore once I really get into the groove with my routine, tired is the word I like to use, my muscles get exhausted, but not tired...

the lactic acid build-up is what causes the burn during your sets. the soreness the next day is from micro-tears in the muscle fibers. cardio will not affect the soreness, and is ill advised post-workout if looking to bulk.

which is what i said in my earlier post about strength and adaptations it is not specifically required for hypertrophy, which is related to strength but is only one factor.

Sounds like you aren't training hard enough bro. I could do the same shit every workout and not take a break for months and still get sore after every workout, my intensity is balls to the wall though...
