    close grip bench press..

Can someone help me when doing this exercise. What is the correct positioning of your hands and do you lower down to the chest or abs ? Just don't really seem to feel my tri's working all that much.

when i do these i only keep a couple inches between my two hands, basically grip it so your two hands are almost touching one another but not quite, like i said i like to keep my hands spaced about 2-3 inches from one another. And i lower it down to the very bottom of my pecs or the very top of your abs.

4 inches b/t thumbs on the bar. Lower to very bottom of chest. Like Moto said. I use a spotter...Failure happens without warning for me with these

i forgot to mention but i use an EZ curl bar, if your gym has a full size one and like not one thats the size for preacher curls then it makes it alot easier. But if your using a straight barbell then ya your hands should be spaced about 4 inches like natty said.

Another key to getting the most out of this exercise is to squeeze your triceps out at the top of the movement. Once you do this a few times it will feel more natural. Also remember to go slooooowww on the negative portion of the exercise.

i also find the movement is helped by using just my palms to grip the bar and not my thumbs.

My old workout partner and I would argue about this a lot - he went a little narrower than shoulder width and I felt you should go narrower than that. But body structure plays a big role - the reality is your upper arms should not bow out to the side like a bench press when you bring the weight down - they should fold to your sides... against your torso.
