    workout for a kid ?

my little brother is 13 years old and he is overweight , he might wanna loose about 10-15 kg so which is better to let him do cardio only by itself ? or let him do a workout (machines only no free weights) / cardio session ? is it wrong that he workout at this age ?

I was just going to ask a similar question.

My son is 12. Plays baseball, football and basketball. He is built skinny just like me. Is he too young to lift weights?

For their age cardio is key. For the overweight boy he might not be able to do much. Let him start by walk/jogging a mile, even if he only joggs 100 yards then has to walk 200, then jog 100, he will build up stamina. Diet for him is also key. He wont see much progress without dieting. If you have any quastions about anything for him just ask me, I have a decent amount of knowledge about kids (none molestor, that sounded funny)

I feel weights are ok, even free weights for kids their age. For them however they should concentrate on high reps at low weights. Example Bench press 5 sets of 30 reps of 30 pounds etc. It is not healthy for them to go heavy. They are still growing, lifting heavy at a young age stunts growth due to the growth plates in there bones not being solidified yet. There is also the high risk of hernias in youngsters for many reasons.

for that age pushups, crunches, and calisthenics are better IMO. Nothing wrong with weights if it's high reps, but I definitely dont agree with any rep scheme under 12-15 reps for a younger person.

my brother amazingly as he is overwight but he can do hell of an effort and can run for an hour if i told him to , ok then i will let him do cardio mainly , adjust diet for him and then when his stamina increases i will let him do weights 3 days a week with light weights
