What cardio you do depends on the goals you want from your cardio.

Then stop running.
65-75% of your MHR for a good 40-45 mins. is platinum.
Choose a recumbent bike, stationary bike, eliptical trainer, treadmill w/a slight incline, etc.

bodyweight - age x .65-.75= heartrate during cardio...right?Originally Posted by SwoleCat
220 - age = heart rate max.
Then times that by .65 to .75.

I use the stairmaster, eliptical (Cross-Trainer), walk on a treadmill and also ride my mountain bike when the weather/time of year permits. If I have just trained upper body I stay away from using the X-Trainer as I do not want to use these muscles any further that session
is it true for woman you do 226 minus age instead of 220?
word thanks...Originally Posted by SwoleCat
When I went above 70-72% is when I noticed muscle loss. I wouldnt run..cuz you will get way above that. Elliptical..walk on an incline etc.
60-65% is actually the safest range to stay in to preserve lean muscle mass.

walk on an incling, starir climber, eliptical sometimes and the new tread climber by Bowflex. My gym's got like 4 of 'em. Supposed to be rather efficient, but I think it can be a tad uncomfortable.
I love eliptical. It's easier on my knees, and I feel like I'm doing more work, than just peddling a bike. Plus you can change the resistance and incline which I love to change.
My gym got new elipticals and I love them, better than the older ones they had before.
