    unable to get HR up

For the last 4-6 weeks or so..I have a really hard time getting my HR up to where it needs to be. I've hit a huge plateau and I've been doin cardio in the A.M. on top of PWO cardio. To get my HR to 70% of my max..I have to jog a pretty good pace on the treadmill and pretty much do a sprint on the elliptical. I'm not saying I have, just thats what it would take. I walk on a 7.0 incline at 3.5mph on the treadmill and I can only get it to 125bpm at the most. I do the elliptical at 65rpm and the most I can get it to is 120..Has anyone found anything that their able to continue to get their heart rate up to where it needs to be without running because I am out of ideas.

hey bro..I can tell you what works for me.. I put the incline on the treadmill to 14 or 15 level and start at a low speed for a bit and then bump it up until 4.5-5.0 mph.. that sure does get my HR up quick.. sometimes even higher than I want it to be.. try that for a bit.. Im almost sure it will help..

yea, try putting the treadmill higher...like 15 degrees (th ehighest) start out at 3.5-4 MPH and your heart rate should be at target within 3 mintues, then slowly lower it down to where you can keep it at a target rate. I usually slowly lower it down to about 15 degress at 3 MPH.

Yeah..I'm assuming yall hold on to the handles when you do that? I even tried that a few days ago I put it on 13.5 incline at 4mph and 128 is the highest I could get..

No, not usually. Only time I hold the handles is if I am doing an hour session and I start getting light headed, then I will hold on to them for 2-3 minutes here and there. My HR usually falls around 140 BPM when I am at this level....good glute/ham workout as well, really tightens things up back there

Oh okay. I was just always worried about it becoming a leg workout like you said and messing with my recovery from my leg session..

I was having the same problem a few weeks ago, chest. I jacked up the incline to 13 or 14 at just under 4.0 mph and found that it got the old HR goin. Also, I started to hit up the stairmaster which has been awesome for THR.

As far as recovery is concerned it really hasn't affected it for legs as far as I can tell. I always just skip cardio on leg days to avoid overtraining, etc.

sounds good..I've slacked some on cardio lately. By slacked I mean I didnt do cardio today..I think I can handle about one more week of cutting..
