Soreness
If your not sore the next day after a workout does that meen your not training hard enough?

Not necessarily, could mean your body has apapted to the same routine. Try switching it up a bit, shock the muscles...

not necessarily.....soreness may not be as extreme (in certain cases, non existant) especially during extreme cutting, when u r very low on carbs, because less carbs=less blood sugar=less lactic acid buildup=less soreness
other than that, cutting or no cutting, my shoulder is never sore the next day, even if i bust my ass and go to failure in the gym the day before...but they do grow like the rest of my muscles..

the theoryof "no pain no gain" is bullcrap. i know alot of lifters who dont necessarily feel sore after every workout and still make great size and strength gainsbeing sore is just a build up of lactic acidm it cant be used as ameasure to gauge if a workout is good or poor IMO

doms(delayed on set muscle soreness)maybe felt especially if hitting the muscle hard once a week but is only 1 indicator of hypertrophy,i hardly ever sore these days with the workout i do and im still growing.like the doc said no pain no gain just dont mean what it used to.

Scientist call this DOMS, delayed onset muscle soreness.
It takes at least eight hours to feel this type of soreness. You finish a workout and feel great; then you get up the next morning and your exercised muscles feel sore. It used to be thought that next-day muscle soreness is caused by a buildup of lactic acid in muscles, but now we know that lactic acid has nothing to do it. Next-day muscle soreness is caused by damage to the muscle fibers themselves. Muscle biopsies taken on the day after hard exercise show bleeding and disruption of the z-band filaments that hold muscle fibers together as they slide over each other during a contraction.

As long as you perform more work than your last workout, you will progress. This could be an increase in weight, reps, sets, etc. Soreness only indicates muscle fiber damage not progression.
