    ANY runners here?

I decided i'm gonna run a marathon jan 14...i'd like to do the 26 mile one but it's only 3 months away so i'm going with the safe bet 15 mile...

    my question is...

i already do muay thai / jiu jitsu 2 hours a day for 5-6 days a week...

you guys think i'd be beating my body up to much to continue with that and throw in a daily 7 mile run and a long run ont he weekend?

I do a quick daily mile and half right now...

Zimmy, not to burst your bubble and please don't take this the wrong way but running is one of the worst things you can do to your body. I've done enough research on this topic to conclude it is downright very unhealthy and destructive.

    Contrary to popluar belief.

I kind of agree with usualsuspect on this. However, having done 4 marathons myself, I can honestly say that it's very much worth it. If you ever need something to help boost your mental toughness and self confidence, then I HIGHLY recommend that you take this plunge. We've all probably experienced complete physical exhaustion at some point of our lives. But it's not until you've been forced to overcome a complete mental breakdown that you'll really begin to appreciate what your body allows you to do. Running a marathon will give you this opportunity.

Running is good for the mind, body and soul. It can, over time, begin to wreak havoc on your body. Specifically your knees and back. But, 95% of the people that drink alcohol are well aware of the fact that it's bad for their liver and overall health. But that doesn't stop there people from throwing a few (if not a ton) back on a daily basis.

I would completely agree with you had Zimmy said, "I want to run 1 marathon a month for the rest of my life". But all he said was the fact that he wanted to run A marathon. I highly encourage him to do it and I'm excited that he's got enough courage to even attempt to do it. Good luck to you Zimmy!

I am a former competitive distance runner. I have raced distances from 1/2 mary down to 800m. To be able to actually RUN 26 miles u have to focus on your weekly long run. This is what will allow you to physiologically survive the distance. This run should be 20+ miles long. Obviously real training would be more in depth. I would run the 15miler, for a first time out. good luck

I'm trying to train in sprinting. Need to increase my 400m time for a military position. I'm OK with the distance running, but I don't get warmed up enough, or have enough speed for the first 400m.

The biggest thing I noticed when training for long distance was to increase your cardio vascular endurance. Train your breathing and muscles to be able to go the distance.

i had got into running a few years back.....my knees and lower back couldnt take the pounding of my 250 lb fat butt. i started in 5ks then 10 ks thats the fartherst i made it....it was funny.... i stuck out among the other runners. on my first 5k...it was in the middle of summer and i was in dead last, but still moving along.....the motorcycle cop, who was the tailend escort, was telling me to give it up, i was causing his bike to overheat

Running fast is largely weight dependant. The lighter the faster to a point. When i was at my best i was 135@5'7 and I was considered a large runner. Also running has many positive health benefits when done in moderation. But since i was running 120+miles a week it made the transition to bodybuilding a little intersting to say the least! I honestly dont know how these 200lb guys can run 5 meters let alone 5000
