    Red face Bench

As far as bench press is concered, I have deleted the long bar flat bench out of my chest exercises. I now only do free weights.
    As of monday, I did 100lbs. 1 set, 8 reps (warmup), 110lbs 1 set, 8 reps, 120lbs 1 set, 8 reps and one more set of 8 reps of the 120lbs d-bells.

My question is, am I working the same with the d-bells as I would with the longbar AND is lets say 120lbs d-bells comparable to 240lbs on the flat bench (seems like d-bells would be harder)

    Thanks for any responses.

ya audis, db are always harder mostly because your incorporating addition stablizer muscles than you would normally with standard barbell

ya, and whats weird is I don't feel the stretch in my chest like I do with D-bells.

And svartur, I think do a couple warm up sets with like 60lbs then jump to 120's.....today will be 125-130's

I can honestly say i dont feel BB that much either. I try and keep strick form, @$$ on bench, feet flat, chest sticking up and slowing move the weight but still nothing. I have even tried changing my grip to where my thumb is under the bar , a tip i got off a milsov (wrong spelling) site but still no luck.
I hate traning chest now bring on the squats !

I told you all I would update you when I did chest.
Today looked like this for flat bench d-bells:

warmed up with 65's for 2 sets of 8
Jumped to 120's for 1 set of 8
slapped on 2.5 lbs to that for 1 set of 8 (122.5lbs)
slapped on another 2.5lbs to for 1 set of 8 (125 lbs)

    Incline bench d-bells:
warmed up with 65's 2 sets of 8
Jumped to 100's for 1 set of 8
Another set of 100's for 1 set of 8
One more set of 102.5 lbs for 1 set of 8

    After the presses flyes followed.
I am very impressed with my overall strength. EVERYONE in the gym was starring (what my sis said) even the bigger guys...made me feel kinda good

work with both, this way your cns wont burn out,i dont beleive neglecting flat bar pressesis a good idea. you should swith it up everyother wk or every micro cycle of training, any resson you decide to quit doing flat press?also chances are if you can do 120lbs with dbells you can do more weight on the flat bench because you will use less stabilizer muscles, it is impossible to tell how much the difference would be, it would be a different number for every individual, only way to know would be to max out on the flat and than you would see the difference

Great, thanks for the input. I will try this next week

My gym only goes up to 120lbs d-bells so its a pain to add on the 2.5 (looks like a gold bar shape) I will ask them to go up to at least 150's.
Ya, I'm not sure what I can do on the longbar but I will try it on monday.

stretch marks aren't bad actually, I'm sure there are more to come since this is the beginning of my 4th week 'on.'
Next week I'll try the long bar and see what I can press.

obviously you have been working out for a while and know what you're doing, but i would like to point out (especially for people who have not been working out long) that you shouldnt become too obsessed with the weight you use. sometimes if you try to go too heavy you will not work the target muscle as well. at least for bodybuilders you need to make sure you are focusing on the muscle and that muscle is doing most of the work.

IMO dumbell work isgreat, but when you start getting to the higher numbers they are such a pain uin the ass to carry and set up for the exercise(you may injure yourself just setting up to do the exercise of choice!)yes flat bar press uses less stabilizers, but it is alt safer, also if youare doing dumbells soley for thefact that you can bring them down deeper than a flat bar, you may want to try the cammel bar, or cambered bar(bar has a hump in the middle of it so you can bring it lower than a regular flat bar)

excellent, I appreciate the advice. I will see if I can incorporate all of these exercises for chest! I dunno I have always felt d-bells during/after my workout in my chest much more than I could using the flat bar. I'll try them all. Thanks doc
