We've all come across the two opposing approaches, HIT versus Volume. Hit is Mentzner, Arther Jones, Dorian Yates and Volume is Arnold and the majority of bodybuilders. Since I've gotten back into training three years ago, I've trained legs with more of a hit approach. The result is I commonly get strains and my legs are not as big (less hypertrophy). When I think back to my old way of training, I did do some heavy sets but I also had plenty of sets where I'd go up to 20 reps. On occasion, I remember doing sets where I'd do fifty reps on the hack squat with two plates on each side. That hurt. I used to visualize Tom Platz because that was his style. Back then, my legs got nice and thick. I'm going back to that volume approach because it works. I think especially with legs, you gotta fatigue em and pump em if they are to respond. It's a bit more painful than HIT but I guess it's time to dig in and grind out! I'm up to it! I think this kind of training requires a skilled spotter too because with legs you gotta go to failure and past it, at least that's what I did when I was getting results. I'm turned on with this new resolve on legs. Legs like Platz!
