    high volume training

Hi i usually train ironman hit and am switching it up for 8 weeks for some high volume training which i responded well to in the past. My question is this. I have that book ultimate bodybuilding and it has about 20 different high volume workrouts that all the old school pros used in their day. I was thinking about for every chest workout for example using a different routine each session. Would this be bad in anyway. Also i am gonna make sure to never decrease the volume for example arnold has a 25 set chest workout in the book, ferrigno is only 20 sets i will use ferrignos before i make the trek for an arny chest workout. Thanks guys and am curious on your opinions on this plan as i know switching it up is very good for the muscles and i feel i can have some fun switching up all the different excercises but is this too much switching up?
Like i said before most of the time i train High Intensity and only get to use about 1 to 3 excercises for each body part for prolonged periods so this would also be fun for me. Thanks guys

i like to stay with an exercise for 6-8 weeks then change as i believe that growth comes from increasing the weight each week until a plateu is reached then go with another exercise and work up with that one.changing can shock the muscle, you will often feel sore after changing alot as your bodies trying to catch up,but soreness is a poor indicator of growth.

if i understand it correctly arnie does 20 sets for chest, peronally i wouldnt go above 12-14 max if done correctly with good form, high intensity and enough weight, there should be no need for that many sets.but good to go other than that.

My main question is if doing a different workout each time for say 8 weeks would be negative in any way. I understand it might not carry many benefits but i am doing that for strictly entertaining myself. So if i were to would it hurt thanks

I agree with this, I think variation is over-rated and growth will occur as long as you overload the muscle, even if it is the same movement pattern. . .With that being said, I do think it is a bad idea to change up exercises every week because it is extremely difficult to equate workloads. If you change the exercise every week, how do you know if you are overloading-meaining doing more than the previous workout-volume doesn't tell the whole story, intensity is very vital also. . . 20 sets at a lower intensity will be less effective than 15 sets at a higher intensity.
