    Hack Squats

It was casually mentioned by one of the kinesiology and exercise science students that hack squats are detrimental to the ACL and patellar tendon

this is what he told me to do...
    1) Go to your gym, go to the hack squat.
    2) Cover the hack squat footplate with butter or "I can't Believe it's Not Butter", whichever.
    3) Load the hack squat to 8-10RM and take off your shoes and socks.
    4) Perform hack squat... make note of what happens
    5) If you are not injured too badly after this endeavor, ask yourself 'what type of force is opposes friction?"
    6) Go to your local library and learn about the ACL and the patelllar tendon and get back to me.

further he mentioned that there is Chronic Mechanical Wear caused by this exercise which may result in one waking up in the mroning when you're 38 wit ha dull achy pain and having to limp down the stairs to get to the cerebrex?

now he's telling me to go read up on this which i will do...

i am just gonna ask if you guys have ever experienced any damage to your knees doing the hack squats on the machine or the barbell.

Also anybody have any idea what he is getting at?

Full Squats don't tear up your knee.

    Halfway down Squats do.

    Ditto.

The leveraged set-up makes no biomechanical sense on most of the apparatus i've come accross.

I did hacks with a barbell before i came to the boards.. And that's what i'll stick with (if i choose to do hacks).

can you elaborate on these? Are you talking about doing them on the smith machine while lying on the ground?

No. Put a loaded barbell behind your back...like stand in front of it rather than behind it..and lift up. This is really what a true "hack squat" is...the hack squats most people know are with the machine apparatus. Sorta like a backwards deadlift in a way.

Sorry, I'm still not getting it chest. Are you describing a deadlift type move with the bar behind you?

    ^^ it's not actually..

It's a sub-parallel squat where the bar is held tightly against the glutes..where the ham ties in. (glute/ham insertion point). Heels elevated... shoulder width stance.

This site shows it as a 'behind-the-back deadlift'... http://www.marunde-muscle.com/fitnes...ack_squat.html

But this is not the same lift as the ones bodybuilders prior have used.

In the above example it is indeed more akin to a deadlift.

I'm sure i posted a pic and description either in this forum or on IFL.

Can't find it so i'll to dig up a new one

This is the closest i've found to the exercise form i and others use on this exercise:

See the bar path... the allignment and the hip/torso position?

Notice the model is below parallel as well.

Though i go deeper..and my heels are elevated. The bar at the bottom of the exercise is held against my glutes.
