    Bow flex

Hey guys, is the bowflex machine that you see on tv really work. Or is it just another one of those fake ads that are just there to rob you?

I tried bowflex once at Sears i didnt like it at all.

One of my work buddies wife is selling a full body machine that has lat pulldown, vertical bench press, low pulley row, leg ext and curls.

The whole thing is 600$ she payed well over 1000$ for it last year and used it twice.

I am gonna buy that machine to complement my workout, cause its got lat pulldown and low pulley rows the price of both machines is a lot higher then 600$, i tried the machine and i love it, its got 160 pounds of plates.

I have a bowflex body...but I would never touch that damn thing. Im sure it works but there is no replacement for free weights.

It has to work due to the fact that resistance is resistance....period. I have a similar machine that I use and though it is very versatile, it is no way the equal of a good gym. It is great when at home alone and I don't wanna roll a bar over my nuts!

bowflex is great because it causes you to use more stabilizing muscles when you lift. It also increase the resistance at the end of your motion when your muscles have a mechanical advantage and less force needs to be exerted to move the wieghts will using free weights.

Agreed. Free weights is the way to go 100%

    Anything less would be uncivilized.

I would go with the totall body just because chuck Norris says its the best.LOL. Really I could see how throwing it in some free weights would help because it would be something your muscles are not use to.

Depends on what model bow flex. The newer ones allow stabilizing muscles to be worked and are very good machines. My dad has a ultimate II and its bad ass. If I had it at my house I would prob quit the gym I think its that good.

Mix of both i had to buy a bow flex type machine for rehab with a vertical bench press and pulldown, but i also have a bench at home and dumbells.

Depending on your goals i wanna lose fat, weight and get in shape i dont wanna go for mass.

All I can tell You about bowflex is that it is very well marketed. But really it is a piece of sh!t machine. Don't waste Your money man. For real.

I really think this is untrue. The older model bowflex's that had the rubber that stretched out were pure trash. The new one (the one on the late night infomercials with power rods) seems to work very well to me. I use my dads from time to time when I am home and I really like it. With that being said it is about a 2,500 dollar machine and is definately not worth near that much money (my dad bought his from some chump practically brand new for like 500). If you are like me tho and hate your gym because its always VERY crowded and its the only one in town that you dont need a technis shot to enter in then I would go with a bowflex before I worked out solo with free weights.

I don't care if I had this thing for free... It is not worth the money AT ALL. Ok with these all mighty power rods... Do You know that You have to waste about half of the repetition before You can even get to the resistance You are setting it to? Do You know that these rods bent over time and loose the resistance? Do You know that all these numbers You have on each rod are not as efficien not even mentioning beeing close to equall to the real weight that You can lift on any home gym with stack weight?
There is way too many better options than bowflex, especialyl for this price.. are You kidding me? Bowlex would be alright for girls or older people that just want to stretch and tone up. Forget about serious workouts. Of Course if You're doing max bench on the resistance rods.. than power to You.. depends on what is YOUR definition of serious workout.
I would not even pay 500 for this thing, I could name You bunch of homegyms with real stack weight that are anywhere from 94 to 210% efficient depending on the exercise. Any of these blow the bowflex out of the water.
We sure appreciate You comment but I've been in the fitness business for a pretty long time, so I know what is worth the money, how things are made or what compares...I can tell You that BOWFLEX is a well marketed product and thats about it! It serves the purpose... want to stretch or tone up go ahead.. if You are serious lifter and want to get big... don't bother.
$2500.00 ... ridiculous. If You want something different and can find it for $500-$600...fine.. You can get decent resistance workouts. But it would not work for me as a primary piece of equipment. No way.

    This is my opinion.
    Period.

You can send the rods in for a free exchange when they loose resistance. Myself and many of my lifting buddys all tried this machine out when my dad bought it just to see if it lived up to the hype. We all agreed that not only was it good but that the bench was spot on with real weight but even if that wasn't the case you could just add enough to make it what you need. I dont see why anyone could not get a SERIOUS workout on it unless the max resistance was not enough. The adjustable pulleys make it work the stabilizing muscles hard, and most stack weight machines that I have seen and used have a barbell type bench that is on a track. I just dont see how that could be more effective. I always see people argue that you cant get big off a machine like these just toned but I dont see the logic there. Your muscles dont know the damn difference between the resistance of a heavy object + gravity vs the resistance of a machine. My little bro has gained like tweny pounds since they bought it like 3.5 months ago (he was pretty skinny but thats still pretty good I would say).

I do agree with you on one thing atleast, the price is obsurd and anyone who pays that should be shot. I am not trying to say that this machine is better than free weights but I am saying that it is the best machine I have used including the single excercise ones at my gym. I respect your opinion but I often see this machine being bashed by people saying it is crap (most often by people that haven't used it and think ALL machines are crap) but in my experience that is just not true. All my friends that tried it were skeptical as was I but they all feel the same way I do now.

Again not saying your wrong just telling my experience with it. I think if you can get one at a used sports store or something for cheap that its a good piece of equipment to have around. Would I try to become a pro using the thing? heavens no

You can get cool equipment from companies like Powertech which will give you the basics ( row , pulldowns . squats etc.) and along with with a few db's and a bar with some weights you will get a wicked home set up. It is no replacement for the gym but it will be way better than a bow flex.
You can look around a find db's and weights a wee cheaper if you search and find used stuff from gyms.
Also if you have the space find a welder pick up some used steal and fab up you own equip.

Right on thats the most intelligent thing i eard on here, what you eat will make you grow no matter how many squats and deadlifts you do if you dont eat right you wont see gains.

Same goes for muscles and machines or free weights, muscles dont know whats going on, same has correct forms and lifting to heavy.

The machine forces you to do the movement correctly with perfect forms, i hate the gym always jammed packed, like i said i got a mix of both here and get a very good workout from both, machine and lots of db and bench.

All these heavy lifting crap, i got injured bad, real bad from lifting way to heavy on the squats and deadlift, if i would have known, you will almost never get injured on a machine.

Always better to play it on the safe side
