    Cardio before/after workout ??

I am doing 30-45 min cardio in the morning before work, then after work I do my workout and then usually another 30-45 min of cardio.... Is there any benefit one way or the other if I should do my night cardio before or after my workout ? Suggestions please ..
    Thanks

they are both good ways of burning fat because in both cases your body must burn fat due to glycogen stores being depleted (in the AM due to lack of food during night and after workout cos you burnt it al up in the workout).
Cardio before workout is pointless. Your glycogen levels will be high so less fat burning + you will have exhausted yourself before even lifting a weight. Carry on like you are mate.

Thanks, thought I was doing it right. Then thought I read somewhere on here that someone suggested not to do cardio after your workout because you should take you PWO meal directly after lifting.. Tried to find the thread but to no avail.... SO If your saying what im doing is fine, then thats all i need. appreciate it.

I've been doing HIIT post workout 3 x week on treadmill or Schwinn Airdyne.
20 minutes: warm up for 2. Then every minute you go AS HARD/ OR FAST as possible for 20-30 seconds. Then moderate to catch you breath for balance of minute 40-30 seconds. Repeat for 15 minutes. Cool down for 3. Done.
You're so busy trying to catch your breath, and watch the clock that the time flies by. You can go up to 30 minutes max.

Sounds like a good plan. Thanks I might have to give that a try.

Jay Cutler states in a recent article that 45min in the morning before you eat and 45min after your workout is ideal for body fat reduction. I can't see anything wrong with what you are doing. Just make sure that you have a decent amount of time to rest from your morning cardio and your workout.

I love doing any cardio that i do after the work out, thats when i can push myself and use up any energy i have left. Thats the real way to leave the gym.

I had these same question that I discussed with the owner of the nutrition store close to me ( NOT GNC) Im guessing your working on cutting/losing some fat.. Morning workouts on a empty stomachs kickass period!.. in the afternoon I was explained in depth (which I cant remember the exacts) but you want to always do cardio after resistance training/lifting for this main fact. Your body takes x amount of time to start burning stored fat.. lifting triggers an effect on your body to immediately start fat burning, so the more effective procedure would be lifting then cardio

though people have already given you the right advice about not doing cardio before working out, let me briefly explain why it is that you don't want to do it...

weight training is an anaerobic activity, which means it's primary energy sources are blood glucose and muscle glycogen (aka your bodies stored sugars). an anaerobic activity can't use fat as an energy source, as fat can only be used through a process called fat-oxidation. with anaerobic activity, the oxygen simply isn't there to burn the fat.

with cardio, it's aerobic, so it's primary energy source (so long as the intensity isn't too high) would be fat through fat oxidation (fat+O2=energy). however, unlike weight training, cardio can use several sources for energy. now, the sugars found in your body are your bodies easiest energy source. therefore, even when doing aerobic activity, it will use sugars at first as an energy source. it's not until your body runs low on those bodily sugars that you begin burning bodyfat.

so, with that knowledge in hand, if you do your weight training first, you burn out your bodies sugars, leaving you with little left to burn but fat when doing your cardio afterwards.

if you do cardio before your weight training, your body will use it's easiest energy source first (aka bodily sugars) for about the first 15mins of it (this is why they say you need to do a min. of 20 mins of cardio to burn fat). then when you go to do your weight training, you will have very little blood sugars left, leaving the weight training with little energy to back it up and leaving you weaker and with far less endurance. because of this, there is no reason whatsoever to ever do cardio before weight training.
