hitting muscles once every 10 days

Is this awful? I have a friend who swears by it saying that just because the calnder revolves around weeks doesent mean your muscles should. He uses very high volume workouts upwards of 30 sets sometimes for major msucle groups and up to about 20 on smaller ones and believes the only way for him to fully recover session to session is to take 10 days between his muscles. He also told me since he seperates all his muscles in his workouts he gets a slight workout on muscles not being worked that day due to his high volume when he works secondary muscles in his excercises, for example on his triceps day his chet gets a slight workout form the 6 sets of dips he does and so on. He believes thus if there is any undertraiining going on this solves the problem. I actually think this is a pretty cool conept and may consider giving it a shot. I am curious to see what you guys believe.

10 days is too long for me, it may take 10 days for muscles to "fully" heal but I work around 7 day weeks. You dont need to wait until the muscle is entirely healed and rested as long as you give it minimum 48 hours you can work it again. A lot of guys have splits that demand the muscle to work every 3 or 4 days, some every week, 10 days.....too long.

Tell you like my Coach told me once.
Training once every 10 days gives you 36.5 workouts a year.
I use to kill my legs to where it took we a minimum of 5 days to recover and most the time 7, so about a week. 52 workout a year.
I knocked down the intensity about 15-20 percent and started to recover in about 3 days.
    120 workouts a year.
It doesnt take a genius to realize if you don't go quite so hard in tearing your muscle down you'll reap better benefits long term in thew amount you can train and thus growing bigger.
