Yes, you do use more back on decline and you do not isolate the pecs as well. However you are focusing on the lower part of the chest and that helps separate and define the chest from the lower abs.

I interpet my chest in three parts when I set up a workout routine:

    Upper
    Middle
    Lower

Just look at any of Arnold's classic most muscular posses. Nobody displayed pectoral separation better than him. Notice the definite line between his upper and lower chest. It's like a borderline on any map.

Isolate, mix it up, keep it fresh, shock your muscles. Chances are you will last longer and get better results.

Absolutely. Muscles adapt, so variation is a key to development. Decline press isn't my favorite movement, but it's a fresh change of pace from time to time. Hey, variety is the spice of life, right?

I think that the main reason some belive decline is not great is that for most lifters they dont have much problem developing lower chest as the do with the middle or upper.

When I first started lifting I used to do decline db every chest workout cause I was a bit stronger in the lift and it stroked my ego.

as time went on my lower chest was over-developed and my upper chest didnt even exsist it got to the point where I looked like I was sporting a nice full B-cup.

Now I put more effort into upper chest training and things are close to balancing out.

Decline is a good exercise, I only do it once every 8-12 weeks for the hell of it. To each his own ya know.

EMG studies show that decline elicits more muscle fiber recruitment in the pecs. Incline elicits the least, it hits more of the anterior delt.

if you think decline is pointless why would you include it in your training?

I do decline and like doing um. Decline gives me that plump lower peck. Looks great behind a tee shirt.

I go with Dips at the end of every chest day. I dont have access to a good decline setup so dips have to suffice
