    Wrist bands vs. "hooks"

Which do you guys prefer to use, if at all, during a back workout, wrist straps or "hooks"? I lost my wrist straps and picked up some hooks in the lost and found. IMO, straps increase your/grip forearm strength, but are a pain in the ass. The "hooks", I don't know what they are officially called, but they are basically a wrist strap with metal hook that allows you to lift more weight. For my first couple of sets I would use a lighter weight w/o the hooks and then for the final set use the hooks to really up the weight and hit the muscle. What do you guys think? Is one more effective than the other?

call me a pussy, but I go bare until the calluses rip off leaving bleeding holes in my hand or my grip gives out. Then I slap on the straps and up the weight. I love leaving the bar spotted with blood

I plan to invest in a pair of straps because my grip sucks on b-bell shrugs and deads...I cant hold more than 345lbs bare handed.

Let's all get rid of this "macho man" way of thinking. Logically speaking, using straps for 'certain' exercises (mostly back workouts) can, and will definitely build more mass to that particular muscle.

Using straps = lifting heavier weight and better targeting a specific muscle.

Straps are not for pussies. Straps are for the serious bodybuilder who wants to maximize his muscle gains by using the heaviest weight that can be properly handled.

    Hooks are for pussies.

i use straps, but wouldnt mind using hooks, may have to invest. i have a deformed left hand, and only have 3 fingers on it, and even with straps, i occasionally lose grip, especially with deads.

My false grip technique aint so bad. Try it some time. Some prefer it with the thumb over, and some prefer it with the thumb under. Just whatever's comfortable for you.

Chalk right here. Never found a weight that was not enough for my back but too much for my grip. I have never deadlifted over 5 plates and I can hold that just fine so never felt a need to use straps. Plus my forearms are comparable to hamhocks. lol.
