Doing resistance ab training will strengthen your abs but that doesn't mean you will see them. When I cut down by ways of diet and extra cardio I can see my abs and I seldom do ab workouts.
Thats not what I was asking... I understand low body fat = abs, however, Im asking how many that have abs do not work them out.

anyhu, I know a lot of pro bb'ers who have monstrous abs but don't work them out because they say the deadlifts and the squats take care of that

Currently, I have four abs visble throughout the day...never work them out on their own and have not been doing cardio- intense training & solid diet.
They get work from so many core exercises I find devoting a ab day completely, while not a waste of time for core strength, is unneeded ***ending on goals.
I usually do abs 3 -4 times a week. It really helps, basically a medicine-ball on a decline bench works the best, as well as doing situps while holding a plate(not a dish..that would look retarded). BUT, doing core lifts such as quats and deads are extrememly helpfull like everyone else said.
