what are some good exercises for increasing back thickness?
what are some good exercises for increasing back thickness?
Deadlifts, seated and bent rows, some pulldowns here and there...
i like low cable pulley rows for thickness in the middle and deadlifts for overall thickness.
Heavy bent-over rows, switching grips from narrow under-handed, to wider over-handed; mixing things up. I prefer to do light weighted deadlifts, 15-20 reps; getting more of a cardio workout and preventing injury.
Heavy deads from the floor one week (low reps like under 5 are best, so you're not using momentum for the reps) and heavier deads from the rack just below your knees the next week....fries the back. T-Bar rows, pullovers...all good stuff, but deads are the main thing.
Row, row, row ... bent-over barbell, Pendlay, seated, single arm DB, etc. etc. Be sure to SQUEEZE the weight back (take the emphasis out of the hands/wrists) as hard as you can and always use strict form.
try doing rows, lat pulldowns, pull ups etc. but with a wider grip....work well for me
i agree its all in the rowing movments.. i love deads, pullups, and rows for back.Originally Posted by ccsranker

you are a ***** if you dont do deadlifts if you want back thickness.............as long as it is safe and all that for you to do
Agreed , deadlifts work the best for me for putting on mass and thickness on my back, nothing else comes close.Originally Posted by IronReload04

and on rack pulls as well, love that exercise.
try this for a solid back workout...
partial deads: (bar starts just below knees) 5-6 sets x5-6 reps
old school tbars: 4x8
assisted chins: 5x as many as you can do without your arms doing the work.
It may not seem like a lot at all but it will work. Give it time.
