    Limited weight

Some way or other, the lever we have at home can be upoaded to a limit of 50 lbs. So, as I don't have the option of increasing the weight, would be as effective to increase the reps 20/40/60 and so on ?

depends on your goals, to gain size you need heavier weight, say a weight you can max at 8-12 reps. If I'm not mistaken higher reps with lower weight will help with endurance but will not really add size.

Well, my goal is to gain size. Everyone agrees that more reps will not do instead of more weight ?

That sounds interesting, but what about those guys who do 500 push-ups a day ?

couldn't say, as I don't know anyone who does, but I'm certain that wouldn't be the best way to bulk.

what do you mean lever? are you working out with a cable??
personally i would just buy a set of dumbells that adjust..they are like 20 bucks, and you can add more weight accordingly as you have money to do/need it.
i put on a solid 20 lbs of muscle using around 50 lbs..i had 2 25 lb dumbells..i just exhausted m ymuscles with whatever i had. you can do drop sets, supersets, pre-exhaust, do what you have to to get an efficient workout with what you have. get resourceful, set up 3 chairs and do deep pushups(2 parallel chairs for your hands, another one for your feet) those will kick your ass i gaurentee. do whatever you have to to make each set harder, and train untill failure..and you're gonna grow. still to this day in my training(ive been back in the gym for a few months now) i only use 2 40lb dumbells with the exception of once a week or every 2 weeks, ill go to the gym and have a heavy day. as long as you are making the most out of what youve got, you should be able to make gains with what you have, esp if you are just getting into training or havent been taking it seriously

pushups are honestly an incredibly valuable exercise...even when i was lifting extremely heavy i was still doing a few hundred pushups within my workouts. right now they are the first thing i do because of my limited workout equipment. if you have any free weight lying around put it on you back..even a 10 lb plate makes a difference. if you can explain exactly what it is you are workin with, i can help you make hte most of it..
    peace

Thanks for the posts. Factually experience always speaks more than simply bla-bla-bla. I know a few guys who just to gym at home without any heavy equipament and they have quite impressive muscles. My father used to do 500 pushups in one set and he was like a rock.
What I am calling lever (and I might be wrong) is the equipament to train legs and arms: the weights are set on the basis and there is a cable suspended over the head to pull. For the legs, we sit straight and pull the weights upwards, or lie down on the stomach on the bench and pull the legs towards the back. For the arms I am feelling really light 50 lbs in sets of 20 reps, so I may keep on increasing the number of sets and reps. I tried to figure out how to upload more on it, but the stuff on which the weights are set is just too small, and I see not way to add more.

If it's the type of machine that has weight plates with bars running through them, and you can't add more plates, perhaps you could get a couple steel dumbells and place one on each side on top of the top plate.

Nope. The weights are set vertically on a pin of about 8 inches and the whole thing moves when it is pulled.

I made a drawing and put it here in the file. The whole part where the pin is moves upwards. Above the pin there is only a bar for the feet.

I see your dillema, hard to modify that. I didn't mean to imply that you couldn't make any gains with your setup, I just believe that you will make better gains with heavier weight, but certainly working with what you have will help. I agree with Tank, pick up some dumbells and add them to your routine and that will help as well, and the plate on your back while doing push-ups is an excellent idea.

lol from that diagram it looks like your using a lat pulldown machine from the early 60's or something(reminds me of what my dads got in his basement)..i dont even know howyou are working arms and legs with that thing.
all i can really say is if you are interesting in making gains, buy some dumbells. youve got a bench at least..sink like 60 bucks into adjustable dumbells and weights and you can do everything. legs/arms/back/chest..you can do full workouts and will definately see gains. what you get is worth far more than what you pay when yourself a set of db's...trust me.
