Can someone gimme a little science

If you type this whole phrase into google:

North American Association for the Study of Obesity, subjects aged 40 to 75 were instructed to do 60 minutes of aerobic exercise per day for 6 days per week for an entire year.

Youll find tons of articles citing that as reason for 60 min low intensity cardio being "pointless" and that its all about 20 minute interval training. This reminds me of that "Body for Life" book that said after 20 minutes, you lose too much muscle.

Can someone just explain to me how this is all wrong, I mean it already sounds wrong to me just because high intensity burns a lot of carbs instead of fat, and because I thought your body chooses to keep muscle over fat, making that after 20 min stuff a big lie.

I found this because I was trying to see if cycling was effective, and read that it was NOT if you are going up and down various hills, because apparently cardio needs a "steady pace". aka interval training is NOT good because its not steady...but isnt biking still good??

basically, both sides make very convincing arguements, and their is more to it than what im about to say

    1. 20 minutes-side-
higher intensity leads to greater metabolic effects........burns glycogen and muscle for energy, but because of metabolic effects, burns more net fat in a day

    2. 60 minute side-
these guy say that they burn a higher ratio of fat......but the metabolic effects dont last as long as the other group........burns less net fat in a day

This is my take on it........obese people shouldnt be doing intense exercise anyway, they'll have a ****en heart attack, get in some kind of shape first, then go intense

This is also my take on things.......SInce I dont need the high metabolic effects from high intensity cardio, (because intense weight lifting is king of raising metabolsim, and its effects can last up to 24 hours), its beneficial for me to burn a high ratio of fat for a low intensity 60 minute session on off days

not scientific, but good info nevertheless
