Overweight novice, looking for good advice #$#@%
hello i have a friend who is looking to get into weight lifting
he's stats are 6'3 270 30% body fat
i try to explain the importance of a proper dieting when seeing results
but he believes he needs no diet to see results...opinion on that topic ? also he's looking for a routine to slim down, i sugguested cardio in beginning, such as a short jog and walk incline for roughly 20 mintues or so until he gets his stamina at a decent level ..possibly time on the bikes 20 minutes or so..
then supersets with light weights focusing on two muscles a day, because i'm a firm believer that simply getting thin is close to pointless, when you can superset to lose weight and gain slight muscle mass simultaneously ..opinions on that ?
thank youLast edited by Godson; 08-29-2007 at 09:41 PM.

If he could handle 45 minutes at his THR i would try that, then find a good workout routine one muscle group every 7 days or so. and diet he should know is more important then his time in the gym

yea diet is def num 1. aerobic threshold training would benefit him most right now. doing cardio on a machine with a heart rate monitor would benefit a lot, and you would see results a lot quicker once you understand what thresholds to train in; and for how long. maybe even add in an appetite suppressant if he is that neglegent on his nutrition. if he is a "need to lift type guy" make sure u start off with 15-20 reps.

what do you guys think about a person who is working out to lose weight
but they decide to do high weight low reps ( 6-8) ?
instead of low weight high reps ( 12-15) or ( 15-20) ?
