That's the going rates for trainers. And unfortunately 90% of them don't know a barbell from a butt plug!

In six months you should have developed a good understading for the various movements - now you just have to keep exceeding your fitness thresholds by applying a progressive overload. You don't need a spotter. You don't need forced reps. You just need to know where you have been and what you need to do to remain progressive... keep using your training log and seeking ways to keep forcing a training stimulus that is significant enough to generate adaptation. You can't grow forever, so every once in awhile you will need to down shift... start cutting or simply maintain... before resuming a muscle-building program.

I've trained alone for 6 years now. Use DBs, be aware of your limits and ask for a spotter where necessary. Fvck $400 on a trainer - read up on here for free and spend it on good food.

There now that you know the difference, you're way ahead of the trainers. No need to spend the money.

I too believe one cannot get the best out of the workouts if its done alone. There are subtle things that can only be pinpointed by the trainer therefore the gym always remains the ideal place to do so. Well if the finances allow then one can always get a fitness trainer for private sessions but then they are the busiest persons now it wont be easy to avail them. One of my friend who is on hypertension medication got into trouble trying to do this all by himself.

I have worked out by myself most of my life. I am at the gym by 5 or 5:30 in the morning, not many people want to join me. But the last 2 years I have had different partners. I does help to have a partner but if you can't just suck it up. Don't be afraid to ask someone (hopefully he knows what he is doing) for a spot or advise to doing the lift properly. Remember form

Best advices I can give you:

    -Start training log
-Listen to your favorite music as you lift
-Watch pumping iron before workout from time to time
-Set your short and long term goals
-Ask yourself if You will reach them or you want to be like most of people out there...

Educating yourself is the best solution, and a good workout buddy never hurt. When I became a trainer I was taught very little that I didn't already know from subscribing to muscle magazines and reading books on fitness and nutrition. Men's Health has a good line of books, definetly buy Arnolds Ultimate Encyclopedia to Bodybuilding, and Gunnar Peterson has a book called The Workout that has a $hitload of variations on lifts. Goodluck.
