    Football, Squats, Ladders... question

Funny story. I was playing semi pro football in a championship game in Brooklyn this fall and saw one of the funnier things I have seen in my days of playing ball. Some kid who was supposed to be some stud defensive tackle grabs our running back and tackles him, looking like he slipped off our centers block. It was kind of funny because he gets up pounding his chest screaming "THATS WHY I BENCH 600lbs!!" He really looked like a gorilla pounding his chest. So next play, I had a trap block (being a guard) and absolutely crushed him head to headThought it was funny because I'm an extremely undersized guard 6'4" 240 and I honestly bench around 240 or so. Thought it was really funny,

    anyway.

I always heard that squats were what you use in football the most because of the power coming from your legs. I can see why a good bewnch would help (a good push) but it seems to me like its all in core strength. So I guess im asking, is it true that squats (and deadlifts) are the most important exercise in the game? Also, for a defensive end (thats where I'm trying to play) anyone know what I can do to improve speed and agility? I do ladders currently, was going to start weighted ladder drills in the next few weeks.

Squats, Deadlifts, Clean and Jerks should def be incorporated into a football workout and/or any workout for that matter

as far as speed and agility, speed drills on the ladder is good, running parachutes, weighted vests and shorts

    look into Sparq training gear

    also, strength shoes are awesome

and thats awesome u crushed that idiot lol

oh and when working out, on your "down" movements, do them nice and controlled, then explode during your "up" motion., but of course staying in control haha

if u wanna help your sprint speed remember the one of the best ways is to SPRINT. i know this may sound obvious but running full out sprints on top of parachute training and all that was said above^^ will help tremendously.. Coach Pollard (former TCU current Mississippi State University strength coach) always stresses core strength and hip flexibility.. good luck DE is imo the hardest position on defense
