    Decline Bench

I hear a lot of people talking about decline being pointless. I use to do barbell, then went over to dumbells. Now a friend of mine has me doing kind of a neutral grip version of dumbells. Any thoughts, opinions???

I started doing declined bb bench press about 6 months ago and I really like them. I never did them in the past because I heard the same thing.

decline barbell bench press requires the most chest muscle output of any chest exercise. do them.

Can't argue with the isolation of the chest...

But the area of the chest worked in decline is the same as Flat bench, but it shifts the secondary muscle group support off of the shoulders, and more on the triceps.

so what your saying is that it doesn't isolate the lower part of the chest? so if it just changes the secondary muscle group why not just do regular bench? i can feel the lowest part of my chest and the sides being worked when I am doing them, which isn't felt as much when i am doing regular bench so i would have to disagree with you on this

Exactly, why wouldn't you just do regular bench? and if you are feeling it in different areas as you say, I would attribute it more to grip placement and form...

Decline is a highly debated exercise, and I'd rather not hijack the thread and get into it....I just think you one could use their time more effficiently with Dips, pullovers, and Dumbbell flys.....

They are not my favorite. I might do them once in 3 months.
