    Pushups Even Work Anymore?

I do at least 50 pushups a day ... no gains... doing military style pushups .. sometimes I switch to wide arm pushups... any advice? Trying to grow a chest, lmao

when i was locked up. i did about 250 push ups at night before going to bed. my chest definitly grew. as well as my tris. actually my traps really grew too. with no pull ups or anything. just push ups. started to get stretch marks in my arm pits. so yea. they worked for me. but everyone is different. it depends how many you do in a set. how many sets you do. and how controlled you are.

I might do some push ups to really burn up my chest at the end of my chest workout but never just push ups

You think 150 a day is a good workout? .. Someone told me I should do like ... 150 .. start off doing 20 every 10mins in the morning... until i get up to 150 then do da same at night... well 300 pushups a day .. is that good?

i think you may be over doing it with that. i would do 15 reps. but slow and controlled on the way down and explosive on the push up. i would also switch. one set i would do wide. then next set i would do close. every now and then i would do diamonds. which really worked the tris and inner chest for me. so i would do 15 reps. rest for a min or 2. then 15 more.. so on and so on. till i got to 250. but i didnt start at 250. i started at 50. so keep doing sets until you just cant anymore. keep count. then you can go off that as your "max out"

Yeah! pushups as a superset or a finishing exercise may be a good idea, the problem is you need to progress in you’re workout, so you will need to do more each workout for them to be productive like with all exercises.

who knows where it would end doing 520 a day lol….you may grow at first but with such high reps you could overtrain and burn out.

anyway are they productive for growth IMO no!

diamond push ups are like this, put your hands out infront of you and make a diamod, thumbs touching , pointerfingers touching, or like how ddp did his famous diamond cutter. then hold your hands in that positions while you do push ups!

dunno about you guys but if i can do push ups at the end of a good chest work out i havent trained hard enough.

push ups at night i found if i do as many as i can then stop for like 2mins then do it again untill your compleatly burned up that works for me it may take you 2sets 3sets or 4 just keep on going untill that chest is pumped.

but wot eva floats your boat

    I second that.

After my chest/triceps workout, if I tried to get on the floor and do one... my muscle basically fail right there...

As far as pushups go, you can do them with your feet on the bench and your hands on the floor. Aslo, feet on the floor and your hands push off the bench (incline pushups).

^^^ x2. agreed, good for a final burn, but for mass I doubt they do anything but get ur heart rate up!

Also I dont agree that "if you have a good chest workout you shouldnt b able to do a push-up".. once the muscle recovers after a set, I dont care how heavy or how many reps, you'll b able to do another exercise. Your chest dosent "stop working" after it goes thru a rigourous workout.

I sometimes have someone put a 45 plate on my back and do em like that. try that!

I used to do normal pushups where your hand is flat on the ground, but I have recently found it more effective and challenging to take a couple dumbells and use that as your base. Doing them that way forces you to do them slower and more controlled, you should be able to do half the amount of regular pushups.

put your feet up on your chouch or something and do them. do sets of 20 or 25. rest 1-2 mins and do another 20-25. then do them normally, with feet crossed.
