    No calf machine :(

Any great exercises possible w/o the machine?

I tried calf raises on the edge of the plate holding two 100lbs dumbbells.

It is hard to keep balance tho.

    Any other suggestions?

if that dont work try donkey raises or whatever they call them. its kinda gay but hey

Get some 2x4's and cut to desired length. Then stack and nail them together at desired height. I shouldn't of said nail them. Get "liquid nail".

You can do effective calf-work just about anywhere.

With limited equipment you could always do the tried and tru barbell toe raise.

This is a calf raise from the floor to the tiptoe position... holding the peak contraction.

Between sets you could do extensive stretching and you're good to go.

Unilateral dumbbell calf-raises can be done at the end of basically any bench (all you need is 3-4" clearance off the floor)... Working One-leg at a time allows for unique muscle recruitment.

Calf-raises on the leg press station are a mainstay for many.

You could also do bent knee calf-raises.. or seated calf raises utilizing the smith machine...with the bar positioned appropriately.

There's never a reason not to work calves..
