Home Gym suggestions?
For various reasons Im thinking of setting up a home gym. Limited space in the garage 7 x 10 foot area, but the idea is to set up something that hits all the major body parts. Not necessary for a high end powerlifter set up but just a good all around set up. Would like to set it up for under $2000 USD
One note: I have a friend that can get me a pretty good deal on Hammer strength type multi station that may suit my needs (it has about 12 exercises that you can do on it). Plus I'd grab a nice dumbbell rack in addition to it. How do you guys feel about leverage type machines like Hammer Strength?
DO NOT SUGGEST A BOWFLEX!

bro, my opinion is to get a power rack with some cool attatchments.. you can do everything with that... I think it really boils down to where you are at and where you want to go with it... how serious or not.. check out new york barbell.. look at those power rack and attatchments.. another one would be powertec.... and i noticed you have LA, their are a tone of good racks made in Cali
as far as a multi gym, I think they are ok for a light workout for somebody.. the nicer ones that can put free weights on like hammer, powertec and so on require much more space then 10X7.... so think about that... I would say a power rack with some floor mats will be good for that space and most functional.

Get a cage with a utility bench. I can deadlift, squat, bench, and anything else you can imagine with an olympic bar and a cage. Get one of those bowflex adjustable dumbells and if you need heavier then 120 get the prostyle dumbells just for the heavy stuff. Get a T bar for the oldschool T bar rows. You can prolly find a bench with a leg extension/curl attacthment and preacher curl attatchments and all sorts of things. Only things i miss at home are cross cables, leg press and ahh maybe some calf machines.

RockinRed, can you direct me to some of the better companies that make power racks out here in Cali?

Still havent decided. Elitefts, lacks alot of information on their website. So I still have not done my homework on them yet. However, I noticed they seem quite a bit pricier than newyorkbarbells.
As yet, I'm still undecided which way I'm gonna go. I like the leverage gym idea because of how easy it is to use. At my gym, I tend to graviate to the Hammer Strength Machines when I dont have a work out partner or spotter. But that Body Solid Rack looks good too and has a some nice attachments as well.

New York will ship to you also... free freight charges... I pretty much live on west coast and ordered... some of there stuff is better than others and other stuff new york has is cheaper then others... I can't complain on the power rack i ordered... they have a lot of attatchments for it and also had the crossover cable attatchment that was great... the hip sled was really nice compared to others.. anyhow, i liked this company out of Salt Lake City too... w w w .p r o - e l i t e . c o m /.... The west coast has really nice equipment just a little higher priced... the body solid above looks pretty good. I would rather have free weights to the universal machines.. the powertec is pretty cool.. I have seen that one live.. but like I said I prefer free weights.. it really dep e n ds on what you want...

check out Bitapart's thread in the lounge about his set up... I hijacked his thread with my home gym layout... It has the New York Barbell set up... let us know if you can't find it... it should give you a guage on how it looks... I do think elite, hammerstregnth, pro-elite, might be a little nicer though....

Rock your set up looks great, but your equipment looks like a lot more than 2k for all the attachments and weights...Am I right? Of course I'm not counting all the dumbbells, Heavy bag, and cardio equipment.

Thanks..... well, minus out the things you said, with the leg press it is just over 2k... prob about 2.5, but the leg press was 1.1 of that.
