    Fat Burning Zone

Hey guys I am 24 years old.5'9" 172 pounds and around 15-17 per. bodyfat. I have been hitting the elliptical while keeping my heart rate around 135. One of the trainers at my gym said that is way too low and that I should be aiming for 155 to 175 bmp. What do you guys think?

It would completely depend on what your trying to accomplish..... if your already in a caloric deficit and your doing PWO or AM cardio in an attempt to burn fat then taking it any higher then 70-75% would be counter productive as you would torch off hard earned muscle.... but if your just going to the gym for a round of cardio w/o muscle training it could be debated that even in a caloric deficit if your glycogen stores werent depleted higher end of "nuclear" cardio would work well as it causes hormonal changes to burn fat as well as more calories.... and of course if your not dieting and just going to the gym to get "in shape" then yes higher end cardio will be your best bet...

On a side not dont listen to trainers... their usually retarded..

I am actually doing cardio for 30 min before I hit the weights. So far it seems to be working. I will take your advice and ignore these personal trainers.

Absolutely, postively do not listen to trainers. 99% of them are completely clueless. Also, switch the cardio to post-workout. If you want to now why, just do a search, it has been debated repeatedly on here.

I personally feel like I am working harder when I do cardio at the end of my workout and it definately seems like I am burning more calories. But for the best results try and get to the gym early in the morning, when you first wake up.
