Nsaid's
In the April edition of Muscular Development magazine, there is an article on pg. 180 about how NSAID's (non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) like celebrex, inhibit muscle growth. They are now saying that aspirins and ibuprofen also may inhibit muscle growth, because they are classified as NSAID's. I take plenty of both to help with the aches and pains, but am not sure if they are inhibiting my muscle growth. Has anyone had any experience with aspirins or ibuprofen use and not getting gains?

They can potentially have a negative effect on muscle repair. NSAID's work by inhibiting intermediate steps in the inflammitory process. Where steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs inhibit arachidonic acid. NSAIDS exert their effect on the cyclooxygenase family of compounts (COX-1, COX-2) so that they limit the conversion of arachidonic acid to thromboxane and prostaglandins which are key signal molecules if you will in blood clotting and inflammation respectively.
Basically taking to much of these compounds will impair the ability of your muscles to recover from workouts. At least that is the working theory right now. Occasionally use will not have much of an effect but chronic usage could surely produce an effect over time.
