Well that you cant really answear because the bottom line is that you've got to have diet, intensity, hr zones etc all in check,
However, if you'd ask "as far as cardio machines which is better the tread or rec. bike?" Id have to say the tread mill. swinging your arms and holding yourself upright helps burn more calories. Plus if you look at the avg trainee on a bike its usually pretty piss poor in intensity.
