Squats
Lately i've been trying squats because they are a great exercise. I have been reading a lot about proper technique, anyways today when i was doing squats my neck was killing me, and im wondering if this is because of wrong technique or does your neck tend to hurt for the first bit.

make sure you are resting the bar on your traps, not your neck. you should feel pressure on your traps, but it shouldnt be overly painful.
if you put the bar on your neck, its going to hurt like a bitch and you may cause injury.

bar placement will usually vary lifter to lifter depending on the width of stance and other variables. but it should never be directly on your neck. remember to arch your back, pull your traps together to make a shelf for the bar, sit back with the weight before going down, keep your head up, and drive up with your chest all the way through the lockout.

most gyms have some kind of pad you can use. i used to do squats with no pad until i quit doing them for a while. now i have to use one. i like the one called stingray b/c it is not as much cushion and is made to sit on the back of your shoulders.
