    Good Mornings

Girlfriend came back from the gym today and said the trainer that was walking by told her not to ever do good mornings and to do stiff legged dead lifts instead. I know that stiff legged dead lifts work lower back and are probably a better exercise but I always thought good mornings were a good exercise for lower back deveolpment as well. Am I crazy or was the trainer just trying to be too helpful?

good mornings are for lower back- legs are straight

stiff legs are for hams- knees are crooked a bit to turn the tension on

so, the question is... what muscle was ur girl trying to train?

they are, but stiff leg deads r just a safer exercise for the average person. As long as she does them with good form she'll be fine. The average trainer works with the average person, which obviously isnt most people on this board.

if ur girl is only trying to focus her lower back i would actually say neither actually. hypertensions have always been my weapon of choice.

She was targeting lower back and I taught her proper form. I told her the trainer deals with the average to below average person so his insights or theories can be off when applied to someone with a few years of experience under their belt. She does hyper extensions as well but I told her if she wants an alternative she could do good mornings.
