    electronic muscle stimulation

Has anyone used electronic muscle stimulation in conjunction with their workout with any success? I am thinking of using it in concentrated areas, while I am watching tv in the evenings? My workouts are eod. I am curious if this works? thanks

Sounds like a quick-fix snake-oil type of deal. You'd probably be better off with a couple of small DBs while watching the tube. That or turn off the TV altogether... ;-)

does sitting on your ass while something does the work for you seem like a good idea? or are you wanting to find ways not to exercise? if you have some type of handicap or were in a bad wreck, i could see a use. for you, no.

I heard they were a rave in 70's when they first came out....even used by a few pro guys....but all it does is massage the muscle....very common tool in DCP office.

    Bruce lee used it!!!

The only problem with muscle stim is that it takes out the neural adaptive component that one gets as a response to resistance exercise.

I used one way back in the 80's and it worked to a degree. But musclecsi is right it takes the nervous system out of the picture and if I remember right there was some talk that it will actually damage the muscle after extended use.

thanks for all the input. I had rehab therapy for an injury a while back and their machine pounded my muscles beyond failure!! I already hit the gym 4 times a week and am coming off a cycle soon. was considering electronic stimulation to maybe get a bit more out my gear. need to research more b4 making decision, thanks again

I was in a car accident a while back, and EMS helped a little bit to loosen muscles. Gaining muscles from it or cardio is a JOKE though from it. Its just a masage in so many words.

I agree, we used to get it done all the time in football when you get a strained muscle and still need to get it warmed up/stretched to be able to practice/play w/o hopefully pulling the muscle.
