If ur on a bulking diet ur focus shouldnt be abs. worry about those when ur on a cutting diet. but a 6'1 150 i def. need to be eating alot of good food and focus on major compound lifts

Abs are purley a result of BF. Ab workouts are good b/c you need a strong core to assist in compound lifts and anything you want to do as far as athletics are concerned.

But someone who never does a crunch or ab WO will still have a 6-pack if their BF is low enough.

If you're 6'1" and 150lbs the last thing I'd be worried about is my abs bro. Work on heavy compound exercises, squats, deads, bench, rows, ect.

6'1" 150!! Abs? You can probably almost see your ribs!
I'm 75lbs more (a few inches taller) and I consider myself skinny.
    You need to eat, son.

what exactly IS your diet? it's way off if you're that skinny. That or you have something seriously wrong with you like a tapeworm or genetic disorder.

Stop running, cut your cardio out. That only burns calories. Eat every 2 hours and eat healthy. You can add fats to your diet, and frankly, you should have quite a few since they are calorie dense. Just don't take in too many bad fats or you'll become unhealthy.

forget the abs. Stop doing the cardio for a while and get to a normal body weight first. Trust me. When your body gets down that low you screw up how the cells metabolize and then you will battle illness the rest of your life. Look at most girls that become anorexic when they are younger. They end up having kidney and liver problems their whole lives even if they get back to a healthy weight due to the damage they previously caused.

If you've gained that much in 8 months just keep up what you are doing. Make sure you are actually taking in the nutrients you need too from vegetables. Calories are important but your body needs micro nutrients to perform the metabolic processes that make your body work.

You sound like you are on the right track then. I wasn't aware you gained this much so far. I wouldn't start worrying about your abs until you are at a healthy body weight which should be around 170 for 6'1". Then you can start shedding a little bit of the fat to show your abs more after you have put on some lean body mass.

DON'T DO CARDIO. I am pretty skinny at your height at 200lbs.

You already know this. Eat 6-8 meals a day. Make sure that they are all similar. 40-50 grams lean protein, 40-50 grams complex low GI carbohydrates.

Do that for like a year. I wouldn't worry about abs until you are at least 170.

Congrats on making it to 150!

Bro i am the same as you, i am ectomorph in my upper body and legs so i get defenition in my arms/chest/shoulders/legs so so easily it is pretty much muscle and bone only, but in my gut i was born a stubborn endomorph, when i eat i feel like i lost a lifetime of ab work, thats why i related when u said you feel blaoted. I tried many many things man from tousands of crunches to buying every mens health/fitness that promised the chisled abs on the cover and doing the workouts.

The truth man is that you must first accept that your body is stubborn, this way you releive the frustration mentally, then the physical approach is to hit it from every angle man, do not listen to the pure bodybuilding approach of only training the abs a few times a week and letting them recover, you need to hit them daily but with different exercises.

Your abs arent just the top surface of muscle, there are internal muscles too, thats why you have to switch between crunches one day, plank the next, old-school situps (yes i said it) , leg lifts, and every other ab exercise you can find in any book or magazine, this will ensure that you really toughen up your abs an tighten up the midsection.....

and then ofcourse comes the diet, before you look at whats going into your body, look at the size of portions, i prefer small meals because it doesnt make my gut bloat, and i dont drink liquids while or after i eat because it really fills up and stretches my stomach more, so small meals, and ofocurse keep them clean meals.

Cardio i personally prefer alternating between just normal cardio and interval cardio, with adding intervals i noticed a big difference in losing fat on the abs.

    Good luck man.

I wouldn't do abs every day, twice a week at most. This guy shouldn't be doing cardio at all right now.

I do mine once a week. They look great. I know another guy that doesn't even do them at all. Most compound exercises hit your abs anyways.

you said it word for word....i got arms chest back shoulders legs but the god dam abs are so stubborn.... i get bloated so easily but in the morning after i take a dump you can see the potential lol......but the second i eat or drink again back to bloated.......my cure is going to be running small distances fast....ill be running a high 5 minute mile.....after i catch my breath i will do crunches 4x30....the idea is to get the abs burning fat during the run working muscle and befor the can recover hit em with the crunches.....but right now i would like to gain more weight im 150 so when i hit about 175 that will be the game plan.... good luck to you my brother

Okay they do recover fast but that is not the issue here. Continue to work abs by all means but get your diet squared away and start with the heavy compound movements. Stick with that and you will have a lot more than just abs

    ugh?

    [QUOTE=tjpatrick1987;4210641] .... i dont need to post my diet.. 41%protein 19%fats 40% carbs...QUOTE]

You are contradicting yourself in every single post. You acted like you had your diet in check but you said now that it sucks. I am bulking right now and you cant see my abs unless I flex, but if I changed up my cardio and diet I would have pretty nice abs within a month. If your gaining weight you are going to gain fat along the way. Most will cover your midsection. I work out abs intensly three times a week, but its not to get ripped abs. You need to get your priorities in line. If you want to gain weight then you have to face reality that your going to cover your abs in the process. If you want to get better abs then your probably not going to be able to gain much weight. Either way you go a good diet is imperative to achieve your goals. When I am cutting, I do different types of cardio 6-8 times weekly. The best way I have found to cut weight on the midsection is to do intense cardio. An example would be (sprint a mile-10min break, Sprint 3-4 60 yard dashes at full speed with 5 min break b/t each). But seriously put together a good bulking diet and eat, eat, eat. I find it alot easier to cut down and lose weight than bulking up and gaining weight. Decide on what you want to do, research it, and go all out to achieve it.

you can do as many crunches, situps, and ab excercises that you want but that wont give you a six pack. It will make your core stronger and build muscle but it wont cut the fat that you have covering them. That is what your cardio and diet is for. Without the right diet and cardio you wont get abs. The way you are contradicting yourself is by saying you want to gain weight and then saying you want a six pack. Your not going to successfully do either if your trying to do both at the same time. To cut the body fat off your midsection you must have a diet in which you take in less calories than you burn and do alot of cardio. That is the exact opposite of gaining weight. All Im saying is decide which one is more important and research how to achieve it. Also, I understand your on a budget. Hell, Im a student living off a part-time job and money made during the summer. You can eat healthy while on a budget. You just have to shop smart.

damn bro I didn't bother to read EVERY reply but to get abs it's a diet and proper training, your already skinny like a twig 6'1 150? wtf, but anyways man you should do weighted ab excersizes and different ones to hit them different, check out other body building web sites that have excersize routines posted

Dude, what r u doing 300 crunches for to build abs? Y don't u treat your abs like the rest of the muscles in your body and put a heavy weight on your chest/behind your head and do sets of 10-12 reps max, giving the muscles a real good squeeze at the pinnicle of the contraction?
