Thread: is big feet/being tall a sign of good genetics?

is big feet/being tall a sign of good genetics?

Does having big feet and being tall with a moderately slow metabolism generally mean good potential for natural gains?

    my shoe size is 14 and i'm 6ft 1in

could there be a correlation with that and muscle growth?

I'm curious if this means I have a lot natural growing that I can do

I seriously doubt being tall means good gentics. Look at most tall guys and they are really skinny. I'm 6'8" and have a size 16 shoe and I struggle for every pound and inch. Look at other members of your family and see how they are built.

No, because bones and muscle fibers are not one in the same..Hopefully, you will have a lot of type-2 fibers as well..

yeah its good if you want to be Ian Thorpe or Michael Phelps. Being tall and skinny (I'm now 6'6" 225 after working hard to get that much lbs.) is generally NOT good for BB. It is the classic ectomorphic build. But if you work hard and long you can fill out.

The only way you'll know if you have "good genetics" for BB is to work out, eat right and see how fast gains come. But the most naturally gifted BB'ers are predominantly ****morphic.

How many pro basketball players do you see who are jacked? I mean the ones 6'6" and over? David Robinson was an exception, Shaq's huge too but not too aesthetically built.

I would like to correct you on that shaq statement, bc he went into the NBA 325-4 percent bf, yes he was jacked

when Shaq went in he wasn't 325, he was a lot skinnier and bulked up over the next few years.

But this is off topic sorry.

Shaq was never close to 4% BF. He was lucky if he ever got under 10%.

I would think that the only thing it means is you will have trouble finding shoes that fit.

not true. my buddy was the exact same size as me in highschool (5'7 155) and i had size 10 shoe and he has giant feet, like 12 or 13 which is alot for being 5'7, needless to say IM BIGGER lol, btw hes like 185 now and fat lol and im about 167 pretty lean. not to get too into detail, but from my understanding he is smaller than average.

but on topic, i think the taller u are the harder it is to add muscle, cuase u have to add more muscle to make it a difference, for instance 5 pounds of muscle on someone 5'7 could be noticed, where 5 pounds of muscle on someone whos 6'2 will barely be noticed. thats why most pro bodybuilders are like 5'8, coleman at 5'11 was one of the tallest.

If anything its the opposite. If you are one of these big feet/tall people then you are in a better position to tell us. Personally i have a hard time putting on size and fit in said category.

    I'm 6'3 and a ****morph, so I'd say I'm lucky,

I wouldn't say I have good genetics because I am tall, but because I rarely get sick and don't have to take ANY prescription drugs for any symptom. I've never broken a bone throughout all my sports years.

Athletically superior? Yes. Genetically superior? I'll tell you in 20 years.

Your question about "good" genetics is all relative...

I dunno, I have freakishly big arms for my size, well above supposedly natural can achieve.

Since day 1 doing weights my arms just grew and got muscley, stronger and large, much larger then any of my friends who started weights with me. It was never an muscle area I constantly worked on, if anything it was so out of proportion, that it looked unusual and I dis-regard it alot. Everything else seems pretty in proportion and normal and not freaky. Guess I got genetics for good arm growth , whilst some people have good genetics for big leg development regardless on their height.

i dont think it means better genetics...it means your a naturally bigger and most of the time stronger than the average man..while it might take longer to fill out, a tall muscular fella is greater than a short more muscular fella in my book, 95% of ladies books too so it doesnt matter to me the bodybuilding judges criteria which leans more towards the "little man"

Robinson, Shaq, Malone, Howard, Alonzo, charles Oakley, Larry johnson, that serbian college player that fled the country...Id much rather have there bodies than Cutler or colemans. Id bet while Shaq cant lift with coleman or Cutler he probably is just as powerful...I heard he can bench over 400 which is amazing for someone with a wingspan well over 7 feet

I'm 6' 5" and it is hard as hell for me to pack on the pounds naturally. Now I am stronger than I look in certain muscle groups but in others my height makes things more difficult such as bench and squat. Since I have long arms I have farther to move the weight while benching which makes it harder and also squatting is more difficult due to the fact that I have a good bit farther to go down since I have pretty long legs

I always hear this I'm 6'6" 277 and I don't think its any harder to bench press or do squats than anyone else.

My workout partner weighs about 310 and is 6" shorter than me and I bench and squat more than him and he is not fat.
His arms are much shorter than mine and his chest is bigger we were working out with 375 on the bench and he couldn't do 6 reps and I did 10 probably could have done more but my shoulder was starting to hurt.

I know there are many variables to this but I move it my full range of motion just like everyone else.
Is it easier for you to do half reps than complete reps moving the weight less?
I'm not trying to flame you I just had this argument with someone else earlier

people seem to forget being taller your also likely to have bigger stronger bones even if you appear thinner than the smaller dude., so while the taller guy has longer distance to movethe weight, i think his stronger bone structure(MOST of the time) should even everythingout so to speak. Its really pointless to compare stats anyway certain excersices favor certain bodies..I do think that bodybuilding contest are biased towards short fellas...

u say your friend is 310 and 6ft and not fat? lol thats just hilarious. u realize ronnie coleman is 5'11 aand 290 ripped and still has a gut. so your friend is 20 pounds heavier but isnt fat..so hes bigger than ronnie coleman? and he still cant bench more than u? lol

I said usually meaning you take the average 6'2 man that works out and the average 5'8 man that works out the 6'2 gentleman is going to be stronger without a doubt...I SAID AVERAGE... if your even going to try to argue that your a midget with little man complex or a complete moron. Worlds strongest man competition, NFL, , these are all things which the tall man dominates..you guys can have your weightlifting with your little range of motions..The average tall man is stronger than the average man PERIOD.

Everyone is of course entitled to their opinion but... errr... in this instance yours is wrong, lol, it is a matter of simple physics:

The longer the distance from the turning force to the load the bigger the turning force must be to move any given load, i.e. in bench press the longer the distance from the pec to the elbow the stronger the pec must be to push any given weight.
