    Question Rest time?

I want to gain more size. I currently rest 20-30 seconds in between sets. If i'm trying to gain size is this wrong? Should I be resting longer in between sets? Need help please.

thats what i do bro, 20-30 second rests. I rest a minute or more only if im going heavy or doing heavy compound exercises, such as deadlift and bench press. I'll let the vets give the advice , im not sure

At 20-30 seconds, you're damn near working GPP. Rest periods that short will affect intensity negatively and total load, as a result.

Rest intervals for hypertrophy, depending on the exercise, volume, load, time under tension, etc. should be in the range of 1-3 minutes.

I normally go about 2-3 minutes between sets. Exceptions are deads and squats, where I may end up going up to 5 minutes.

same here. If i'm doing some pansy excercise with cable i may reduce the time to 1,5 mins. Just in that case.

in arnolds encyclopedia of bodybuilding, he states the following " Try to keep rest periods between sets down to a minute or less. In the first minute after a weight-training exercise you recover 72% of your strength, and by 3 minutes you have recovered all you are going to recover without extended rest. But remember that the point of this training is to stimulate and fatigue the maximum amount of muscle fiber possible, and this happens only when the body is forced to recruit additional muscle fiber to replace what is already fatigued."

100% agree. I use to rest 2-3 minutes, by decreasing rest time, i increased intensity and have had more results.

If u want to gain size u need to use heavier weights, low reps, and high intensity. U need to rest 2 or more minutes for the muscle to recover in between sets.

a minute or two, so that phospo-creatine and ATP stores are relatively back to normal.

One way to recruit more motor units is by increasing weight also. Fatigue is just one of the possible ways to recruit more motor units.

I agree, however, I have noticed other's, and sometimes myself when increasing weight, you are more likely to break form, thereby not hitting the targeted muscle group. Im not saying you should have 100% perfect form,i believe its good to go heavy even if form isnt perfect, that's why i have heavy days

Around 2 to 4 minutes depending on how demanding the exercise.

Big heavy compound movements take longer to recover from. If ya going all out on deads then you may need 5 min. It depends on what ya doing and with how much weight.
