How much should i be squatting/deading?
Hey guys im not huge cos im fairly new to weight lifting. My Stats are as follows.
20 yrs
6ft
190lbs
13% BF
Ive just started adding deadlifts and squats these last 4 weeks but im unsure how much i should be lifting approx. ( the first week i was actually doin 40lb deads :P but i found out i was doin them wrong. )
At my size what would be a rough estimate of what i should be dead lifting and squatting?
For comparison my 1rm bench press is around 210 lbs but ive been doin bench for over a yr. and my seated leg press is around 400lbs hope that helps.
Just a rough estimate would be good. For the last 6 weeks ive been doin about 110lbs on each but i think i should be doin more and maybe im not doin em right?

i know u r looking for base #'s but id worry more about form on these exercises than weight ..if it takes another month to perfect form so be it....good form is 100% necessary on these exercises to get full benefit and prevent injury (as it is with all but esp compound movements like these) Weight ....and great gains from these will come....(sorry no #'s for you bro...) Great to see you incorporating them BTW ...great foundation exercises ...

^^^ diddo what Jimmy stated.
focus on form and exercise.... numbers mean nothing... it has only been 4wks.... get the technique down and the rest will come later. just do what is comfortable and like all ur exercises you will naturally have to add more weight.
happy lifting....

Be honest... Form #1... Looking good #2 (lol)... Strength #3... Seriously though... FORM, what they said^^^ Is very important, dont want to injur yourself and not be able to gain in weight for the next 6 weeks do you? If you have to do 40lb deads for another month man, no harm in that... I have a friend that can push up 325-335 on bench, he brags constintly... IN MY FACE! lol... but he bounces the weight, ive told him he is going to injur himself... now Im not wanting him to... but when he goes to the gym... people just stare, not at his strength... at his stupidity and how dumb he looks thinking hes doing everything right... Moral of the story... Its all about form...

I agree with Jimmy as well.
Don't worry about any numbers or reps that you SHOULD be doing with your stats.
Focus on the form and build all the way up doing it the right way.
Take care!

thanks for the help guys. I did 150 on squats today thats as heavy as i can go with good form. Just in general most people after lifting for a while deadlift more than they squat and squat more than bench.. is that right?

You can't compare the two since they are totally two different exercises. Everyone is different.
I have never been much of a "pusher" so when it comes to bench i suck. Of course when people find out that i am a gym nut they ask the age old question "Oh really, how much you bench?" which my replay is always "Who cares, how much do you deadlift?" I always end up gettting a confused stare at this point.

Same exact thing happens to me now that i've gotten back in the gym. Still can't figure out why benching is the "ultimate" exercise in terms of "manly" strength. I think a squat or dead or another compound movement would be more telling of how strong a person is, but then again, who cares what your numbers are. Too much comparing with others when you should only be comparing with yourself and how you are progressing.

Good form is the only way to go bro. Don't worry bout the weight. A couple of months ago I was getting into the 2-3 rep max with my squats and deads, and although I managed to lift a whole bunch of weight, I also herniated a disk in my back while doing deads.
If I knew what I know now I would have kept it light, doing 8-12 reps with good form. The way I see it now, who cares how much you lift? I'd rather look like Arnold deadlifting 135lbs than look like an old crippled man like I do now. Good luck tho bro.

my max deadlift and my max squat are approximately the same.....i just don't hardly ever get up to that on squat because of the higher danger of maxing in my opinion. my bench is about 65% of those lifts i think....but my bench is pathetic....
and i agree with everyone that form should be number one, you learn the proper forms and then worry about the weight once you've got that down
