    P90x

I was thinking about starting P90X in the the next month. I want to step up the cardio and increase flexibility. Has anybody tried it or know of anybody who has and if so how were the results.

yes. i've done a couple of them to see what they were all about. if you can get past tony horton's corky sense of humor then you should like it. very good series. my freind did it with a change in diet and went from 330 lbs to 260 lbs in just over 6 months. i recommend every one try it at sometime.. (good luck on the first plyometrics day)

I was hoping to gain strength and cut up from it also but do not want to lose muscle on it. It seems like it can really get you into shape. I just quit smoking and my lungs are weak and prevent me from lifting really hard and mess up my resting times. I was hoping P90X could address this problem so I can start hitting the weights hard again.

any exercise will help this out. if you are out of shape the p90x may be a bit much at first but do it at your pace and push further when you can.
congrats on breaking the habit. lifting caused me to quit cold turkey and i haven't touched them in 5 years.

I am in shape, I just want to introduce a brand new system to my body and after I am done go right back to pushing the weights hard. I am looking for a challenge and heard the program is no walk in the park. I already got the system for free and just have to buy a good pull up bar. My license is suspended so I am going to work out at home until I get a restricted one in 4 months and this program seemed perfect until I am more mobil.

P90x is fast paced endurance/cardio type training, you will lose muscle.

Also, smoking has not been shown to decrease exercise capacity...

Smoking does effect exercise capacity and max lifts- it has been documented for years. Oxygen plays a big role in exercise aerobic and anaerobic. Your muscles need oxygen grant it that ATP is mostly needed for lifting. But limited oxygen intake will mess up lifts and resting periods as it will take longer for your lungs to be ready - also smoking effects the heart so blood flow and nutrient uptake is also limited. It also increases stress hormones in the body so it is easier to be in a catabolic state. I don't need my bachelors in Science to know this - I knew this before college.

P90X is crazy. I have done it and i lost quite a bit of BF with proper diet.

Plyometrics is crazy. You'll be out of breathe within 15 minutes. Enjoy it.

Far from Richard Simmons and most guys in here would have a hard time with it. To others I look like I am in great shape but I am a light smoker 2-6 cigs a day and I need to strenghten my lungs and the most important muscle - the heart. I quit smoking about a week ago and my stamina has rebounded a lot. P90x will bring most people to a higher level of complete fitness and health that they have never achieved.
