    Deadlift

Okay, so I am aware that in order to grow deadlifts are paramount. But what specific musclegroups do they target? Hamstrings? Back?

Also, what are the advantages/disadvantages of doing regular deadlifts and sumo deadlifts with feet wider apart? Do you switch up DLs with sumo DLs? And do you alternate grips after each set?

You may want to ask this in the powerlifting section, they would know the specifics better

I do deadlifts on back day. Deads are a core exercise and works back but also hits all core muscles too

it depends on the tecniques you do. a stiff leg deadlift will put more pressure on the hamstrings and lowerback

    they target almost everything
i dont do sumo deadlifts, or alternate grips after each set
i use lifting straps and a standard front grip

but i've heard its a great idea to switch up your grip consistency

Haha bro I couldn't agree more. Only a handful of guys at my gym actually do deadlifts, and out of those, I'm the only one who uses more than 225lbs.
I've worked my way up to 405 for 3 reps, and every time I deadlift the whole gym goes quiet and watches me do my set. As I walk off and get a drink, everyone just stares at me like "wtf". It's actually hilarious because 405 isn't really that much.

Well..have you seen yourself on the mirror when doing deadlifts. All red from your face, veins and eyes ready to pop out, it's impossible not get a piece of that!!

Yeah I envy powerlifters when I'm doing deads...especially in my cookie cutter gym, people just want to know why the guy in the corner is so angry and throwing weights on the floor...I just keep my hat low, headphones loud, and head to the ground.

To answer the OPs question the primary muscles used would be the erector spinae, glutes, adductor, hams, quads, and soleus

are you doing stiff leg? i felt a similiar pain in my right knee after deads and i iced it accordingly, took a week off deads, came back and it was fine. but this time, i kept my knee slightly bent instead of stiff to ease the tension. now i have no pain.
