well u dont do deads for traps. u do them for overall body strength/growth, but they mostly work the hamstrings, lower back, but they really help with traps.

    for shrugs

shrug to the front, bar bell, on the front of you quads squishing your nuts

shrug to back, i use smith machine, the bar is at my but and i lean just a tad forward to clear my butt

shrug on the seated rows, wide grip bar, and the movement is full extention forward then (dont row) i just pull back with straight arms and try to touch our shoulder blades together

incline shrugs, dumb bells, chest down on a incline bench, these are tough... and you will get a killer burn, extend as far as you can and retract with straight arms, again try to touch your shoulder blades together

    last
preacher bench for bies(this is a trap excersize), put your chest where your arms go(so you are backwards) and do a shoulder raise, but you are going over your head... these are tough as well i started with 20lbs dumb bells and im at 35 lbs now (each hand) your body is at a 45 degree angle and your head is down, the weight extends from straight down from the seated area above the head

... done, then i do deads - never really noticed deads hitting traps... i'll have to think about it next time i hit them

Well, most people put a shrug in the end of their deadlift, so technically it's the shoulder shrugs that are doing it for you. As said, change up from barbells to free weights, do behind the back in front wide grip... Go crazy and Always pinch for a second or two at the top then slowly allowed the weight to go back down.

Always. Especially with front and rear bb shrugs. I give them a decent 2 second squeeze at the top, and lower them slowly.
Heavy weight fewer reps, or lighter weight more reps? I can't seem to win
