    shoulder probs and bench

I've had problems off and on with my shoulders for a few years now. I've always gone down to my chest and the last few weeks it's been hurting at the bottom of the movement. Today I started to go down to about an inch or two off my chest and my shoulders felt great and I could feel my chest getting a workout. On the last set I dropped it down in weight and went all the way down to see how it felt and felt a little pain. So my question is will I still get a good workout from staying an inch or two off my chest? I also thought I'd throw this in, I'm 6'1 and have longer arms than a friend of mine who is 6'3 so I already have way more of a motion to go thru

Just stay off the bench for a while. There's so many other exercises you can do instead. Try dumbell flat bench and see how your shoulders feel. How about some bb and db inclines? Dips, decline, cable crossovers, etc.
The bench is notorious for causing injuries and it sounds like you might fall victim as well. And as far as you still getting a workout, yea, maybe a little one but i hardly think it's worth hurting yourself over. Too many other exercises you can do. Good luck man.

I just love doing the bench but I guess it would probably be a good idea to switch to DBs. I can do incline, and decline BB with no problem...it's just the flat that kills my shoulder but only when I go all the way down.
