To Be Honest, 3 Months (12 weeks) should be enough time to make great changes to the body! Depending on what your idea of significant changes are. I have went from 230# at 18% bf and went down to 191# and 9% BF. This was actually done in only 9 weeks so you can see if you are determined and really want it, In 6 months you could easily drop 35#+ of fat and become extremely ripped
