How many sets for biceps, triceps and deltoids?

    Hey

I do by biceps, triceps and deltoids all on seperate days.

I was thinking 8 sets for each muscle group would be good.

Do you think I should increase to 10, maybe even 12 sets?

Like on my biceps day I could do 6 sets of seated curls, and 4 sets (or maybe 6?) of hammer curls

And similar mix ups for triceps and deltoids.

My main question is the number of sets that would be best to really stretch those muscle fibers for best growth. I'm lifting for strength.

I personally think that 8 sets is to many already for biceps. I really think 6 sets is fine in general for biceps, 7-8 for triceps, and 3 sets for each deltoid head. Of course it also depends on your rep range. The lower the rep range the more sets you should do.

agreed...its really on the intensity some say they dont grow doing low volume because THEY DONT TRAIN TO FAILURE!

I dont know what is wrong with me.. I do 12 sets for each of them and also calf/hams/.. and then 15-16 sets on bigger muscles.. chest/back/quads-glutes

AND I SEEM TO BE GROWING..

Everyone is different in this aspect. I do not overtrain.. i know i dont.. i do not exhibit any of the symptoms of overtraining... and until I stop getting results from the amounts of sets I do I will NOT change my routine...

    But thats just me...

You have to tailor your workouts to YOU.. and find out what makes YOU grow and what doesn't.. we can sit here and tell ya 6 sets MAX on biceps but if you grow off of 12 sets better than you do 6 sets THEN WHY WOULDNT YOU DO THE 12 SETS !!!!??!?!?

Thats just my thought on the matter...

I noticed I wasn't making diddly squat for progress on a 6 set routine for my smaller muscle groups.. so I DOUBLE IT.. and I have DOUBLED in size.. so this set rule of how many sets to do is not correcty IN MY CASE at least... for some reason for me... MORE REALLY IS BETTER !!

And yes ETR I train to FAILURE on each and every exercise and EVEN after FAILURE.. I do a dropset to slam it even harder...

    Case in point.. Biceps yesterday..
Warmup- Preacher machine.. 1 set.. Double Failure Dropset.. 110lbs/32 +55lbs/23
Standing Double Pulley in the cable crossover system- 3 sets/10 reps a piece.
Standing Ez-curl WIDE BB curls 4 sets- DS on the last two sets to failure...
Hammer Curls Superset with Crossbody Curls 4 sets..

Total.. 12 sets... and I feel fine.. little sore.. not bad but I do this every week... In the past three 3 weeks I have added a 1/4 inch on my arms.... I WAS STAGNANT for 2 months stuck on 17 inches EVEN until I decided to up it to this 12 set arrangement so.. obviously I am officially doing something correct...
